We should have a matariki holiday because most people love matariki and dancing and singing. Why is Matariki particularly important for our NZ Nation?Māori used Matariki as a signal for when to plant their crops after the long winter.Should we all celebrate, just those who choose to, or just Maori people?Māori are the indigenous people of New Zealand Aotearoa. How long has Matariki been celebrated for?Some iwi, or tribes, start celebrations when Matariki is first seen, however it is the first new moon after Matariki that officially signals the Maori New Year.
